Temperature compensation of ball surface acoustic wave sensor by two-frequency measurement using undersampling

Abstract: To realize a practical two-frequency measurement (TFM) system for precise temperature compensation in a ball surface acoustic wave (SAW) sensor, the application of undersampling (US) was investigated. The subtraction coefficient for the temperature compensation in US was theoretically explained. The principle of the TFM system using US was simulated by the decimation of the oversampling (OS) waveform after applying a narrow band-pass filter, and the delay time was measured using a wavelet transform. In the app… Show more

“…Such sensors are also applied to biosensors 234,256,257,[300][301][302] and gas=chemical sensors. 186,233,240,243,[246][247][248]250,251,253,254,261,303,304) Most of these sensors have films that undergo a chemical reaction with target substances, which cause mass loading of the piezoelectric resonators. Therefore, such a sensor is also a type of mass sensor.…”

“…Recently, the present authors developed a new technology called ball surface acoustic wave (SAW) moisture sensors [ 5 ]. It covers a wide range of moisture level, from a few ppbV to hundreds ppmV, and the most prominent characteristic is its quick response to a sudden variation in the moisture level [ 6 ].…”

“…Research and development of SAW devices have been widely carried out in recent years for applications in filters, sensors and duplexers. [18][19][20] Although gate drive circuits with optical isolation, 21) a resonant circuit, 22) and a piezoelectric transformer 23) have been studied, the gate drive circuit using SAW filters has not been reported. In this system, the control signals for the switching devices are multiplexed and transmitted through a single coaxial line as RF signals.…”
