Abstract:A technique for the measurement of electric current using highly-birefingent optical-fibre is reported. The technique involves a resonant coupling between the fibre beat length and the period of a spatially-varying magnetic field. The resonant nature of the coupling makes the sensor less susceptible to environmental perturbations, than conventional lowbirefringence optical-fibre current sensors. The response of the coupling to distributed loads, and temperature compensation of the coupling are reported.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
