Temperament, Beliefs About Pain Control, and Pain Intensity in Endometriosis Patients

Abstract: This correlational study investigated the relationships between temperament, beliefs about pain control, and pain intensity ratings in a group of 103 women diagnosed with endometriosis. Temperament traits were assessed using the Formal Characteristics of Behaviour-Temperament Inventory. Beliefs about pain control were measured using the Polish version of the Beliefs about Pain Control Questionnaire. The Numerical Rating Scale (NRS-11) was used to measure pain intensity. There was a high negative correlation be… Show more

“…Similarly, patients with endometriosis obtained the highest result in the BPCQ test in the area of influence of physicians (M = 13.52, SD = 3.94), followed by random events (M = 13.17, SD = 3.81); the smallest role was assigned to internal control (M = 11.78; SD = 3.96) [14].…”

“…In The interactions of messages were grouped into frequencies of messages that were ordinary activities, customization of messages, and the regularity of messages they experimented with in order to assess the accuracy of linkages; this strategy gave greater accuracy than previous models [ 11 ]. The framework of influence propagation and diffusion between the strong links of homophily networks was analyzed based on the structural properties of the mesoscopic features of data mining [ 12 ]. The influential target node focuses more on the content of information; uniqueness, quantity, and innovativeness [ 13 ] were considered the centrality of the network and the characteristics of information diffusion [ 14 ].…”

“…All these results have clinical implications; in particular, beliefs about internal pain control could be a prime target in psychological interventions to improve personal control over pain and so extend control over the disease and its course. The study presents several limitations: the sample is far from being representative of the entire population of women with endometriosis, as it was small and self-selected; some social and interpersonal variables such as social support or quality of life were ignored not taken into account; some medical variables (severity of endometriosis, or the influence of the pharmacological management of pain and possible comorbidities) were not considered [ 170 ]. Other authors described that greater self-esteem, body esteem and emotional self-efficacy were positively correlated with better psychological outcomes; being in a stable relationship was associated with less rumination.…”
