Background Rabies is a fatal zoonotic disease of significant public health importance. Domestic dogs are the main reservoir and transmitter of this disease, particularly in developing countries. Community awareness about rabies is one of the key components of prevention. This study describes the knowledge, attitudes, and practices about rabies disease among dog owners at Kahama town council, Shinyanga Region, Tanzania. Methodology This was a cross sectional community-based study which was done in May 2021. Structured questionnaires were administered to collect the data among 422 dog owners. The information collected included demographic characteristics of the dog owners, as well as their knowledge, attitude and practice towards rabies. Data were analyzed using SPSS statistical software version 20. Results Out of 422 respondents, 421 (99.76%) knew that rabies can be transmitted by dogs, 384 (91%) knew that rabies can be prevented by vaccination of dogs, 269 (63.74%) knew the symptoms and signs, and 379 (89.81%) believed that it was necessary to vaccinate all owned dogs, but 227 (53.79%) had not vaccinated their dogs. Education level (p = 0.006) and occupation (p = 0.002) were significantly associated with a positive attitude, whereby those with a higher level of education and farmers were more likely to have a positive attitude. Also there was statistically significant association between gender (p = 0.038), marital status (p < 0.001) occupation (p < 0.001), education level (p = 0.006) and the practices of the respondents in the community whereby majority of male, unmarried dog owner who are farmer with primary education level had lower practice score. Conclusion This study concludes that respondents had good knowledge, a relatively good attitude, and poor practice towards rabies prevention and control. Rabies awareness with an emphasis on the importance of vaccination as well as vaccination campaigns should, therefore, be intensified, especially among the least educated dog owners.

Malignant gliomas are one of the most common and lethal brain tumors with poor prognosis. Most patients with glioblastoma (GBM) die within 2 years of diagnosis, even after receiving standard treatments including surgery combined with concomitant radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Temozolomide (TMZ) is the first-line chemotherapeutic agent for gliomas, but the frequent acquisition of chemoresistance generally leads to its treatment failure. Thus, it’s urgent to investigate the strategies for overcoming glioma chemoresistance. Currently, many studies have elucidated that cancer chemoresistance is not only associated with the high expression of drug-resistance genes in glioma cells but also can be induced by the alterations of the tumor microenvironment (TME). Numerous studies have explored the use of antifibrosis drugs to sensitize chemotherapy in solid tumors, and surprisingly, these preclinical and clinical attempts have exhibited promising efficacy in treating certain types of cancer. However, it remains unclear how tumor-associated fibrotic alterations in the glioma microenvironment (GME) mediate chemoresistance. Furthermore, the possible mechanisms behind this phenomenon are yet to be determined. In this review, we have summarized the molecular mechanisms by which tumor-associated fibrotic reactions drive glioma transformation from a chemosensitive to a chemoresistant state. Additionally, we have outlined antitumor drugs with antifibrosis functions, suggesting that antifibrosis strategies may be effective in overcoming glioma chemoresistance through TME normalization.

The ethnopharmacological significance of Rosa canina, or dog rose, transcends diverse cultures, with traditional applications in treating various diseases. This study investigates the potential pharmacological application of Rosa canina for diabetes treatment, aiming to assess its antidiabetic properties through in vitro, in vivo, and in silico analyses targeting pro-cytokines. Biochemical profiling utilizing HPLC, and phenolic content analyses were conducted to reveal the antioxidant properties of Rosa canina. In diabetic rats, root extracts influenced the expression of TNF-α and IL-1β, with an exploration of DNA-binding and protective activities. DPPH scavenging and iron chelating activities were measured, identifying significant IC50 values. The chromatographic analysis identified various compounds, with Kaempferol 3-O-glucoside and Rutin exhibiting high inhibitory activity against TNF-alpha. In silico analyses highlighted inhibitory activities by molecular docking against TNF-α and IL-1β (PDB IDs 2AZ5 and 9ILB, respectively) and their drug potential based on ADMET properties. The obtained results have demonstrated a significant decrease in blood glucose levels in mice through the reduction of TNF-α and IL-1β mediated diabetic processes, facilitated by the Rosa canina extract. In conclusion, this study exploring the effects of Rosa canina extracts on diabetic rats have provided valuable insights into its potential therapeutic benefits. The observed reductions in blood glucose levels, improvements in lipid profiles, and modulation of antioxidant activity highlight its promising role in managing diabetes-related complications. Further research is warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and optimize the dosage regimens for harnessing the full therapeutic potential of Rosa canina extracts in diabetes management.
