Tellurium Vanadate Glasses: V4+colorimetric Measure and Its Effect on Conductivity

Abstract: This research comes as part of a broader resurgence of study on the electrical conductivity of glasses-and the mechanism for electronic motion in the amorphous network-spurred by interest in using glasses as matrices for solid-state batteries, taking advantage of the glasses' tailorable conductivity, chemical durability, and mechanical strength. The work presented in this study regards the preparation and characterization of some binary glasses belonging to the TeO 2-V 2 O 5 system. In particular, we focused o… Show more

“…This ionic conductivity is due to the migration of non-bridging oxygen along the network-former chains 45 , 46 or to the ion hopping of oxygen vacancies 47 . In their rigid state, at room temperature, common glasses, such as flat glass or glassware, have a conductivity of about 10 -11 S/cm, which puts them in the category of insulators, but there are also semiconducting glasses with a conductivity of up to 10 −5 S/cm 48 . To compare the glasses in terms of electrical conductivity, the temperature at which the conductivity value is 10 -8 S/cm (10 -6 S/m) can be used as an indicator of the conductivity limit between dielectrics and semiconductors [18, https://spark.iop.org/conductivity-electrical ].…”

“…This kind of glass has been widely applied in industry in memory devices, micro-structured optical fibers, and switching due to its good semiconducting properties [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. Recently, zinc-tellurite glass doped with heavy metal oxides has received great scientific interest due to the major role that such oxides play in improving optical and electrical properties of these glasses [ 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 ].…”

“…[17] In glass structure detection, it was reported that Te as ½TeO 4 and ½TeO 3 , V as ½VO 4 and ½VO 5 structural units exist in the glass network, and the interconversion of these structural units are related to the doped concentration. [18][19][20] The changes of the above properties are closely related to the electronic energy levels and local structures of transition metal ions. [21] By changing the chemical composition of the glass, the local environment of the TM ions entering the glass network can be altered, resulting in inhomogeneity of the local ligand field.…”
