Telescopic Overdenture Supported by a Combination of Tooth and an Implant: A Clinical Report

Abstract: The conventional modality of treatment of partial edentulousness with reduced number of teeth was to render them complete edentulous and provide them complete denture or an overdenture with support of few remaining teeth. The goal of maintenance of roots are to prevent alveolar bone resorption, provide better load transmission, maintain sensory feedback and achieve better stability of denture with emphasis on psychological aspect of not being completely edentulous. Over the recent past titanium dental implants… Show more

“…The most preferred prosthetic materials are tooth or implant-supported FDPs, RDPs, and tooth/implant-supported overdentures in sequence. 1 Telescopic crowns are also known as a double crown or crown-and-sleeve coping. These crowns were introduced at the beginning of the 20th century as retainers for RDPs.…”

“…Prosthetic rehabilitation of a partially edentulous patient can be established by using wide range of treatment options. Most preferred prosthetic approaches are conventional removable partial denture (RPD), teeth/implant supported over-dentures, fixed partial dentures, and implant supported fixed or partial dentures (ISFPD) [ 1 ]. Conventional removable dentures, supported by remaining teeth and alveolar tissues, have been widely used.…”

“…Primary copings provide retention and stabilization for secondary crown and also protect the tooth from dental caries and thermal irritations. The secondary crown is engaged to the primary coping to form a telescopic unit and serves as an anchor for the remainder of the dentition [ 1 , 8 ]. The retention and the stability of the telescopic denture are directly related to the number and the distribution of the abutments along the dental arch and also to the taper of the primary coping marginal walls.…”

“…Consequently, the number of patients needing prosthetic rehabilitation is increasing . A wide variety of dental prosthetic treatment options are available for partially edentulous patients, ranging from simple conventional removable partial dental prostheses, fixed partial prostheses, to implant‐supported overdentures …”

“…2 A wide variety of dental prosthetic treatment options are available for partially edentulous patients, ranging from simple conventional removable partial dental prostheses, fixed partial prostheses, to implant-supported overdentures. [3][4][5][6] Overdentures retained by telescopic crowns are a common therapy for patients in Germany. 7 The longevity of the remaining abutment teeth and the overdentures depends on the number and distribution of the abutment teeth.…”
