Background and Aims Telemedicine is the delivery of healthcare services from distance using information and communication technology. It helps in overcoming the geographical physical barrier, increasing access to the healthcare services. Telemedicine has been growing in Nepal, with several hospitals and medical organizations providing services since 2006. COVID‐19 pandemic ignited significant interests in it, which previously remained unnoticed, realizing its importance for the present and future. The objective of this study was to evaluate the knowledge and attitude toward telemedicine among medical students in Nepal. Methods An observational study among medical students in 19 medical colleges in Nepal was performed from May to June using Google forms. The survey consisted of 27 questions including information on demography and telemedicine exposure, its status in Nepal, interest, and plans for its future utilization. Results Of 146 total surveyed students, 77.4% (n = 113) provided their views regarding telemedicine. Among students with knowledge of telemedicine, only 8.8% (n = 10) had attended some training. Only 6% (n = 4) of those who had previously consulted through telemedicine labeled their experience as poor. Exactly 88.5% (n = 100) were not satisfied with present telemedicine practices and coverage and 43.4% (n = 49) were optimistic about using telemedicine in future. Irrespective of location of medical colleges (Kathmandu Valley or outside) or levels of study (preclinical or clinical), students had similar knowledge and attitude regarding telemedicine. Conclusion The participants have good knowledge regarding the importance of telemedicine but only few of them are educated regarding its usage. Despite limited exposure to telemedicine, participants advocate for expansion and wide use of telemedicine due to economy, technological advancement, and topographic diversities. Internet, sense of reliability, privacy issue, and lack of proper curriculum seem to have raised question on their positive attitude. Formal and structured education may enable optimistic aspirants to integrate telemedicine skills with medical care delivery with ease.

Background: Teledermatology has become a popular alternative tool for providing dermatology services during the COVID-19 pandemic worldwide. Despite being a rising health care modality, it helped to deliver uninterrupted services. The study aimed to determine the implementation, utilization, and acceptance of teledermatology services during the pandemic. Objectives: The aim was to assess the satisfaction of patients utilizing teledermatology services and to obtain their clinical and epidemiological data. Methods: This was a retrospective, observational, single-center study on patients using teledermatology services. Demographic data was analyzed and a questionnaire survey was conducted through phone calls regarding their experience of the service. Results: The mean age of the patients was 33.48 ? 17.89 years. Out of 122 teleconsultations, 89 patients could be contacted again for feedback, among which 81 (91%) found the service easy to use, 75 (84.3%) were able to express their problems similarly to visits in person, 49 (55.05%) regarded teleconsultation as the same as an in-person visit, 80 (89.9%) were satisfied, and 85 (95.5%) agreed to use the service in the future. Superficial fungal infection was the most common diagnosis (24.6%). Newly registered patients were more satisfied in comparison to follow-up patients (96.36% of new cases vs. 79.41% of follow-up cases, p = 0.01). Conclusion: Teledermatology was well accepted by the patients in the current scenario. Telehealth services have a promising role in the future in fulfilling public health demands.

Background In the area where there is a lack of medical experts, telemedicine gives a lot of benefits to deal with the distance and limited public infrastructure. Objective This study aimed to review the literature on the cost-effectiveness of telemedicine in Asian countries and possibly to provide recommendations on implementing telemedicine in this region. Methods Articles were independently screened in two selected databases (PubMed and EBSCO). The framework of patient, intervention, comparison, and outcome (PICO) was applied by considering Asian population, the intervention of telemedicine, current situation (without telemedicine) as the comparator, and cost per QALY gained as the major outcome. Results A total of 870 articles were identified from two databases: PubMed (n = 689 articles) and EBSCO (n = 181 articles). After removing 181 duplicates, 689 articles were screened by title and abstract, excluding 665 records. After the full-text screening on 24 articles, 8 articles were selected for further analysis. Various perspectives were applied in the included studies, such as societal, healthcare, and program perspectives. All studies applied different time horizons, such as 3-month, 25-year, 40-year, and lifetime. Among all included studies, several studies applied mathematical modeling. Conclusion The implementation of telemedicine in Asia can be a promising intervention since it can enhance the effectiveness of health services by saving time and travel costs. It also can reduce the overall costs of treatment, improve patients’ quality of life, and expand access to essential health services.
