This paper reviews recent, nurse-led telehealth research with the goal of describing research findings that provide evidence for practice. Methods: Using an iterative search method, of eight electronic databases, 84 nurse-led research papers were separated into intervention research, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, and descriptive research. The main emphasis was on full text analysis of the intervention research. Results: Fifteen intervention research papers reported findings related to cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, older age, young adults, early adolescents, children with special health care needs, people with a stoma, post-partum mothers and nurses. Also reviewed for useable evidence for practice were 10 systematic reviews, two meta-analyses and two papers that described reviews plus meta-analyses. Resuts: Fifty-five papers with descriptive designs are briefly described. Nurse-led intervention research is increasing knowledge about the use of telehealth technology and applications in care delivery. People with healthcare needs do better with individual attention and increased follow-up. People have a tolerance for technology used with them to advance their quality of life and healing but there is a point at which too much technology is overwhelming. Clinical research is a challenge due to the number of extraneous variables that are difficult to control and that can affect a person’s response to the research intervention. Conclusion: Continuation of nurse-led telehealth intervention research will help to ensure that technology used to support and advance care delivery will be evidence-based.

Objective: Analyze the knowledge generated about telenursing related to the roles of nurses (care, education and management) in Latin America and the Caribbean, based on scientific evidence. Methods: Integrative review, for the years 2009 to 2019, in scientific databases from Latin America and the Caribbean. Twelve articles were selected. Results: Nine studies focused on care and three on education. The information and communication technology used in the studies was telephony directed toward non-communicable diseases. There were concerns about the remote communication process. With respect to education, two focused on educating health teams and one on educating patients. Conclusion: It is necessary to conduct studies on telenursing that generate changes in care practices, explore information and communication technology resources and provide communication training focused on this new care model.

In many countries, the implementation and dissemination of e-services for healthcare systems are important aspects of projects and strategies, as they contribute to significantly improving the access to such a system. The aim of the study is to analyze nurses’ opinions on the application of the e-health solutions at work and the self-assessment of their IT competence. A linear stepwise regression allowed for the visualization of independent variables significantly influencing considerably the level of IT competency. Reduced IT competency was found in the group of nurses who rated the impact of the Internet and the new technologies as lower on the health care and general lives of modern people (β = 0.203; p < 0.0001), recommended e-health solutions to a lesser extent (β = 0.175; p < 0.0001), rated e-health solutions lower in relation to the patient (β = 0.149; p < 0.0001), and were older in age (β = 0.095; p = 0.0032). IT competence has become an indispensable requirement for nurses in fulfilling their professional roles. The quality of using new technologies in the work of nurses depends on their IT competence.
