“…While the incidence of neoplasia in elasmobranchs is reportedly low, this likely results more from limited surveillance and reporting and is being partially overcome by observations made in zoos and aquariums. Improved diagnostic imaging techniques in these settings, including digital radiography and ultrasound, may provide increased detection of internal neoplasms (Hyatt, Clauss, Dennison, & Camus, ; Rahmati‐Holasoo, Shokrpoor, Masoudifard, Davudypoor, & Vaseghi, ; Stilwell, Boylan, Howard, & Camus, ). In this report is described the first case of lymphoid neoplasia in a stingray.…”

“…Cytokeratin‐positive reaction confirmed the epithelial components of renal cystic adenocarcinoma in a flowerhorn cichlid with metastatic involvement of the spleen (Rahmati‐Holasoo et al., ), renal cystic adenocarcinoma in an Oscar ( Astronotus ocellatus Agassiz) (Rahmati‐Holasoo, Shokrpoor, Masoudifard, Davudypoor, & Vaseghi, ) and gas gland adenoma in a lined seahorse ( Hippocampus erectus Perry) (Stilwell, Boylan, Howard, & Camus, ). In the present study, positive cytoplasmic expression of the neoplastic cells in the kidney confirmed the epithelial components of nephroblastoma.…”

“…To cope with living in a dilute environment, freshwater teleosts produce plentiful amounts of dilute urine (Hwang, ). Birefringent fan‐shaped crystals were observed in renal cystic adenocarcinoma of flowerhorn fish (hybrid cichlid) and Oscar ( A. ocellatus ) (Rahmati‐Holasoo et al., , ). Birefringent fan‐shaped crystals were also observed in the present study.…”

“…Osteosarcomas are rare but have been reported from the fins (Grizzle, Bunkley‐Williams, & Harshbarger, ; Schlumberger & Lucke, ), gill (Manera & Biavati, ) and operculum (Bunton & Wolfe, ; Schlumberger & Lucke, ). A telangiectatic osteosarcoma has been described originating within a renal adenocarcinoma in an oscar, Astronotus ocellatus (Agassiz 1831) (Rahmati‐Holasoo, Shokrpoor, Masoudifard, Davudypoor, & Vaseghi, ). Other bone‐producing neoplasms (Nash & Porter, ; Schlumberger & Lucke, ; Singaravel et al, ), including a perihepatic teratoma in a chinook salmon, Oncorhynchus tshawytscha (Walbaum 1792), have also been reported.…”
