“…De Natale et al (, hereinafter DEA16) gathered new stratigraphic and 40 Ar/ 39 Ar geochronological dating at a 501‐m‐deep hole (Campi Flegrei Deep Drilling Project [CFDDP]) located at Campi Flegrei. The latter is one of the highest risk volcanic areas in the world (e.g., Sparks et al, ) and was the site during Quaternary of strong extensional tectonics linked to the Tyrrhenian Sea opening (e.g., Milia & Torrente, ; Milia et al, ). This well drilled the deposits of the two most important eruptions of the Campania margin: the 39‐ka‐old Campanian Ignimbrite (hereinafter CI) and the 15‐ka‐old Neapolitan Yellow Tuff (hereinafter NYT), respectively, at depths of 500–265 m and 265–160 m. These original data can furnish new insights in the reconstruction of the volcano‐tectonic evolution of the highly populated Campi Flegrei located on the Campania margin.…”
