“…On the eastern flank of the uplift, palaeo-weathering crust (rich in Fe oxides) was preserved on the top of the Nantuo diamictites at Huaqiao (Figures 2 and 3c), indicating the glacial sediments experienced subaerial exposure before deposition of the Doushantuo Formation. The widespread occurrence of wavy to coarse planar or horizontal laminations in the thick-bedded to massive cherts of the overlying Liuchapo Formation at this locality (Figure 3d) are similar to the microbial laminations occurring in the equivalent shallow-water platform Dengying Formation (dolostones), suggestive of microbial mats formed on the tidal (intertidal-supratidal) flat (e.g., Ding et al, 2019). Penecontemporaneous silification of the microbial dolomites in the silica-supersaturated seawater could have perfectly preserved the primary structures of microbial carbonates probably by accelerating seafloor subsidence due to tectonic extension beyond the principal Yangtze Platform (Chen et al, 2009;.…”

“…Penecontemporaneous silification of the microbial dolomites in the silica‐supersaturated seawater could have perfectly preserved the primary structures of microbial carbonates probably by accelerating seafloor subsidence due to tectonic extension beyond the principal Yangtze Platform (Chen et al, 2009; Wang et al, 2012). Farther eastward to Dalongtan, hummocky cross‐stratification occurs extensively in the Liuchapo Formation (Figure 3e), also suggesting a shallow water regime (above storm wave‐base) during deposition (Ding et al, 2019).…”
