Abstract:Tapagem Cave (or Devil's Cave) is a river cave developed in the dolomite marble karst of the Serra do André Lopes (State of São Paulo, southeastern Brazil). Although this region is a plateau with significant variation in elevation and a humid subtropical climate, the cave is an anomalous feature in the André Lopes karst because there are few other caves. The marble, which is in a synclinal structure with subjacent phyllites, is a karst aquifer perched above the regional base level (Ribeira River) and has little allogenic recharge. The cave developed on a secondary anticline on the northwest flank of the marble synform forming a blind valley, the Tapagem River sink, that is an underground tributary of Ostras River. Development of the cave is due to the entrenchment of the Ostras through-valley and the large allogenic catchment area of the sink. In plan view, the morphology of the cave can be divided into three different sectors. The first sector, known as the Tourist Sector, has extensive collapse rooms, fossil passages and a variety of speleothems of notable dimensions. The second and most extensive sector is the river passage, which is a sinuous gallery controlled by marble banding with NE-SW cleavage and NW-SE fractures. In cross-section, the passages are vadose canyons up to 70 m in height, controlled by the marble banding. Four NW-SE diabase dykes in this passage do not affect its direction in plan view. The third sector is an extensive network of passages and collapse rooms, which are interlaced in plan view and on different levels, forming a maze pattern. Initially, the Tapagem and Ostras Rivers developed on a gentle surface and flowed into the Ribeira River. With the entrenchment of the Ostras through-valley, the Tapagem River partially infiltrated via a paleosink into the upper passage of the "Erectus Room," remaining a half-blind valley. Following a series of collapses and obstructions, the River next infiltrated via the current sink, creating a fully blind valley. This study analyzes the optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) characteristics of quartz grains from fluvial, eolian and shallow marine sands of northeastern and southeastern Brazil, with especial focus on the applicability of the single-aliquot regenerative dose (SAR) dating protocol. All analyzed Brazilian sediments presented relatively high OSL sensitivity and good behavior regarding their luminescence characteristics relevant for radiation dose estimation. However, some samples from the Lençóis Maranhenses region in northeastern Brazil showed inadequate OSL sensitivity correction, hampering the implementation of the SAR protocol and their ability to behave as a natural dosimeter. While the shallow marine and eolian samples showed a narrow and reliable dose distribution, the fluvial sample had a wide dose distribution, suggesting incomplete bleaching and natural doses estimates dependent on age models.

Resumo O Grupo São Roque caracteriza-se por rochas depositadas em ambiente marinho com atividade vulcânica submarina, as ocorrências da Formação Morro Doce são dominadas por metarcóseos e metarenitos feldspáticos com expressivas lentes de metaconglomerados, que formam uma seqüência considerada como unidade basal do Grupo São Roque. Rochas metavulcânicas ácidas e básicas intercaladas nesta seqüência constituem importante marcador tectônico e geocronológico, e foram usadas para determinar sua idade de deposição (1.75-1.79 Ga). O estudo petrográfico dos clastos graníticos dos metaconglomerados permitiu a identificação de quatro variedades petrográficas: biotita monzogranito porfirítico, monzogranito inequigranular, monzogranito equigranular e leucogranito inequigranular. O caráter comagmático entre os clastos é confirmado pelos dados geoquímicos e geocronológicos. Rochas metavulcânicas ácidas que ocorrem intercaladas a metarcóseos e metaconglomerados, na região do Morro do Polvilho, caracterizam-se por meta-traquidacitos e meta-riolitos porfiríticos. Com características geoquímicas típicas de magmatismo intraplaca, em especial baixo mg# (~20), altos teores de Zr (560-730 ppm), Y e Nb, além de baixo Sr (70-120 ppm), as rochas metavulcânicas ácidas do Grupo São Roque apresentam similaridades com as metavulcânicas ácidas da base do Supergrupo Espinhaço. Por outro lado, o corpo anfibolítico do Jaraguá, de idade ainda desconhecida, parece ser intrusivo na Formação Morro Doce tem características geoquímicas mais próximas de magmatismo de fundo oceânico, com baixas concentrações de elementos incompatíveis como Rb, Nb e Th, o que as aproximam das rochas metabásicas supracrustais da região de Pirapora do Bom Jesus. Abstract Metacoglomerates and associated rocks of the São Roque Group, northern São Paulo city, Brazil.The São Roque Group is composed of rocks deposited in marine environment with coeval volcanic activity, the Morro Doce Formation is dominated by meta-arkose and feldspatic meta-sandstone with expressive metaconglomeratic lenses, which form a sequence regarded as the basal unit of São Roque Group. Metavolcanic acidic and basic rocks interspersed in this sequence are an important tectonic and geochronologic marker (1.75-1.79 Ga). The petrographic study of the granite pebbles from the Morro Doce Formation metaconglomerates allowed the identification of four petrographic varieties: porphyritic biotite monzogranite, inequigranular monzogranite, equigranular monzogranite and inequigranular leucogranite. The comagmatic character of these pebbles is confirmed by petrographic and geochemical data. Acid metavolcanic rocks interlayered with meta-arkose and metaconglomerates in the Morro do Polvilho region correspond to trachydacite and porphyritic meta-rhyolite.
