“…The principles of sequence stratigraphy are widely applicable in basin analysis for investigation of the evolution of sequences controlled by tectonics, climate, sediment supply, and sea-level change (Carroll & Bohacs, 1999;Posamentier, Jervey, & Vail, 1988;Vail, 1987;Vail, Mitchum, & Thompson, 1977;Zecchin & Catuneanu, 2015). Many factors, primarily tectonics, control sequence development in continental rift basins; sediment supply becomes relatively dominant when tectonic activity is weak (Bahroudi & Koyi, 2004;Carroll & Bohacs, 1999;Elliott, Suttner, & Pratt, 2007;Martins-Neto, Pedrosa-Soares, & Lima, 2001;Nottvedt, Gabrielsen, & Steel, 1995;Schlüter, Hinz, & Block, 1996;Vail, Audemard, Bowman, Eisner, & Perez-Cruz, 1991;Zhou, Ji, Pigott, Meng, & Wan, 2014). In a structurally stable case, variable sediment supply significantly affects the spatial and temporal development of sequence stratigraphic architecture (Helland-Hansen & Hampson, 2009;Madof, Harris, & Connell, 2016;Martinsen & Hellandhansen, 1995;Posamentier & Allen, 1993;Wehr, 1993).…”
