“…The age of these units is not well constrained, the Pulo do Lobo Formation, based on U-Pb zircon ages (Braid et al 2011) is suggested to be middle-late(?) Silurian to middle Devonian in age.…”

“…These units are overlain in both limbs of the antiform by a flyschoid sequence which age ranges from the upper Frasnian to the upper Famennian . Various tectonic interpretations have been suggested for the PLD: (i) an accretionary prism in close association with a subduction zone dipping to the north below the Ossa-Morena Zone as a consequence of the Rheic Ocean closure (Munhá et al 1986a;Quesada et al 1994;Pereira et al 2006;Ribeiro et al 2007); (ii) an independent terrane ); (iii) an escaped crustal block that resulted from the Iberia indentation with Laurussia, responsible for the generation of the Ibero-Armorican arc (Braid et al 2011) and, finally, (iv) the infilling of a deep extensional basin between the SW border of the Ossa Morena Zone and the Iberian Pyrite Belt (Pereira et al 2012a). …”

“…3), which contains the BejaAcebuches ophiolite and is widely interpreted as an accretionary complex associated with the closure of the Rheic Ocean between the South Portuguese and Ossa Morena zones in the Late Devonian-early Carboniferous (e.g. Eden 1991;Braid et al 2011). The South Portuguese Zone lies outboard of the Rheic suture and is generally considered Avalonian (e.g.…”

“…Therefore, the analysis of age populations of detrital zircon grains is connn only used to constrain the maximum depositional age and provenance of metasedimentary rocks, and its role as a geooy namic tracer is currently gaining importance (e.g. Braid et al 2011;DIos! et al 2011;Zhu et al 2011).…”
