The decommissioning of nuclear power plants (NPPs) is rapidly increasing because NPPs are not only no longer profitable in many cases but are also being decommissioned due to a lack of public acceptance or political reasons in many countries, particularly in Europe, following the explosion of the Fukushima Daiichi NPP. Accordingly, a significant body of research has focused on achieving safe, environmentally sound, and sustainable decommissioning in many countries where there is demand for NPP decommissioning. In order to achieve sustainable decommissioning that restores the NPP site to its pre-NPP environmental state, it is necessary to understand the safety, technology, and cost aspects as well as having the process and strategy to systematically promote them. Although there are a limited number of countries with experience and knowledge in the management of decommissioning multiple NPPs, researchers in countries just starting NPP decommissioning need diverse research information on how to formulate a sustainable decommissioning strategy as well as related factors. In particular, a systematic review of decommissioning strategies, such as DD, ID, and ET, and the influencing factors associated with each strategy is needed from the researcher’s point of view. In this regard, this study reviews the research literature on decommissioning strategies for nuclear power plants with a sustainable perspective. A systematic method involving a meta-analysis is used. The results of this study confirm that many researchers are most interested in DD and are dealing with ID and ET at the same level, but in reality, DD and ID are being adopted at similar rates. Thus far, only three ETs have been adopted in the United States. Most countries that have adopted ID are deemed to have been influenced by political decisions.

A good sound environment is essential in creating a harmonious and peaceful campus, improving students’learning outcomes, promoting physical and mental health, and creating a green and healthy campus. This study investigated the impact of new buildings on existing ones by optimizing the spacing between new buildings and the sound insulation structure of building enclosures. The results indicated that building 4 was affected by the noise from new building 1 and its surroundings, with a maximum outdoor daytime noise level reaching 69 dB, and the indoor background noise level in the least favorable classroom was 43.73 dB, less than 45 dB, which was within the acceptable range. It is recommended that the sound insulation design be improved in the planning of new teaching buildings. Besides, the surrounding traffic conditions should be improved, and the usage time of sports facilities should be scheduled appropriately to prevent the noise from sporting activities from affecting the classroom activities. The findings of this study provide valuable references for future architectural acoustics design and campus planning, contributing to the creation of peaceful and comfortable campus environments.

The thermal performance of window glazing requires improvement for a sustainable built environment at an acceptable cost. The current work demonstrates a multifold smart composite consisting of an optimized In 2 O 3 /ZnO–polymethyl methacrylate–paraffin composite to reduce heat exchange through the combined self-cleaning and energy-saving envelope of the smart built environment. This work has attempted to develop a smart composite coating that combines photosensitive metal oxide and phase change materials and investigate their thermal comfort performance as a glazed window. It is observed that the In 2 O 3 /ZnO (5 wt %) multifold composite film experienced better transmittance and thermal performance compared to its other wt % composite samples. Moreover, the multifold composite-coated glass integrated into a prototype glazed window was further investigated for its thermal performance, where a steady average indoor temperature of ∼30 °C was achieved when the outside temperature reached ∼55 °C, while maintaining good visibility. Interestingly, the transparency reached ∼86% at 60 °C and exhibited a hydrophobic water contact angle (WCA) of ∼138°. In contrast, a similar film exhibits ∼64% transparency at 22 °C, where the WCA becomes moderately hydrophilic (∼68°). Temperature dependency on transparency and wettability properties was examined for up to 60 cycles, resulting in excellent indoor thermal comfort. In addition, a thermal simulation study was executed for the smart multifold glazing composite. Moreover, this study offers dynamic glazing development options for energy saving in the smart built environment.
