Social media influencers emerged as powerful sources in affecting and guiding consumers' purchase decisions through self‐generated content and online interactions with their followers. A large number of studies have so far focused on cognitive aspects such as perceived credibility, trustworthiness, and expertise of these influencers. This study aims to further advance the existing literature on social media influencer marketing from an affective perspective, with a focus on the emotional bonds generated by online interactions between the influencer and their followers. Based on the interpersonal process model of intimacy and theories in celebrity endorsement and social media influencer marketing, it examines the impact of self‐disclosure and perceived responsiveness on familiarity and intimacy, which, in turn, affect purchase decision. An online survey was conducted with 304 social media users in Mainland China who have followed social media influencers. The results highlight the formation of two affective factors, namely, familiarity and intimacy, via self‐disclosure and perceived responsiveness. Theoretically, this study provides a fresh perspective to better understand the endorser effect outside the regular set of cognitive factors. Marketing practitioners and companies can follow the suggestions of this study to select more effective social media influencers for their marketing campaign, and to build closer relationships with their target customers.

Estimating levels of user trust is important for maintaining continuous use of e-commerce systems because trust alleviates user concerns about the invisibility of service providers or their reputation. Conventional trust estimation approaches such as policy-and reputationbased reasoning have focused on the experience of e-commerce systems at an early stage. However, only a few trust reasoning methods have considered the mature stage, which is more related to continuance intention. We propose a trust reasoning method dedicated to the mature stage of using e-commerce systems. In particular, a new method of unobtrusively estimating the degree of user intimacy is developed, because intimacy has been highly associated with trust as well as reputation. Our experiments show that the proposed method is valid and can be used in conjunction with reputation-based trust reasoning.

Brands are moving towards the Metaverse (3D immersive virtual spaces), where the growth of intangible products and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) are evolving into a new type of hybrid experience for the users. This paper aims to establish the role of a “gamification of marketing activities” and its influence on consumer‐based brand equity for intangible products (NFTs) in the Metaverse and examine the mediating role of consumers' brand engagement and brand love. To evaluate the conceptual model based on the cross‐cultural data from two emerging countries in Asia and Africa, the study followed a two‐stage, hybrid mechanism using PLS‐SEM and neural network modeling. This study provides insights into the Metaverse–a new taxonomy of technology, in the context of embodiment, presence of AVATAR, and interactivity in the virtual world, supported by the social exchange theory. This study also suggests practitioners focus on brand authenticity while projecting their brand in the Metaverse.
