Solar-powered photovoltaic (PV) system encounters a signiﬁcant amount of losses due to different derating factors of PV modules throughout its lifespan. Thus, proper investigation is much needed to grasp the technical and economic impact of derating factors on the solar PV system, specially the one which is connected to the utility grid. This study performs a comprehensive discussion on various PV loss parameters followed by a techno-economic-environmental assessment of combined derating factor on an grid-connected and optimally tilted PV system located at Hatiya, Bangladesh using HOMER (Hybrid Optimization Model for Multiple Energy Resources) software. Some criteria linked with derating factor such as PV degradation and ambient temperature are further explored to analyze their impact on the aforementioned power system. Simulation results show that the system provides the best technical performance concerning annual PV production, power trade with grid, and renewable fraction with less emissions at a higher value of derating factor since it represents the lower impact of loss parameters. Similarly, ﬁnancial performance in terms of net present cost (NPC), levelized cost of energy (LCOE), and grid power exchange cost is found lower when derating factor value is higher.

Summary This study presents a strategy for selecting an optimal location and placing the optimal photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage system. The power loss, voltage stability of the system, and also sizes of PV and storage are the major objectives, which are obtained through analytical crow search optimization (CSO) algorithm. Initially, the Newton‐Raphson load flow analysis is performed; and voltage, and losses of active and reactive power are calculated. The dynamic modelling of the proposed system time interval varies between 1 and 24 hours. The injection of active and reactive power is based on the nondispatchable PV, which can work under the optimal load flow. The major calculation of this work includes the fill factor, load, maximum power, battery, energy loss, and voltage stability. The two test systems, IEEE 33 and IEEE 69 bus systems, have been utilized for validating the performance of a proposed strategy. Finally, the proposed strategy has been compared with some different methods such as improved analytical (IA), exhaustive load flow (ELF), analytical multiobjective index (AIMO), analytical particle swarm optimization (A‐PSO), and fast IA (FIA). From the comparison results, the proposed strategy proves the efficient PV size selection for an optimal location to minimize power and voltage losses.

This work describes a new photovoltaic (PV) sun tracker design methodology that utilizes the advantages that the orientation and efficiency of the PV panel offer due to the latitude of the installation zone. Furthermore, the proposed design methodology is validated experimentally via the implementation of a solar tracker with dual axes at a specific location (27.5° latitude). In this case, the methodology enables the incorporation of a high-availability, low-accuracy, and low-cost tracking mechanism. Based on the results, the feasibility of this type of solar tracker for latitudes close to 30° is demonstrated, as this tracking system costs 27% less than the traditional commercial systems that use slew drives. This system increases the collection efficiency by 24% with respect to a fixed device. The proposed methodology, which is based on an orientation efficiency chart, can be applied to the construction or control of other types of solar tracker systems.
