Techno-Economic Analysis of Renewable-Energy-Based Micro-Grids Considering Incentive Policies

Abstract: Renewable-energy-based microgrids (MGs) are being advocated around the world in response to increasing energy demand, high levels of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy losses, and the depletion of conventional energy resources. However, the high investment cost of the MGs besides the low selling price of the energy to the main grid are two main challenges to realize the MGs in developing countries such as Iran. For this reason, the government should define some incentive policies to attract investor attent… Show more

“…The optimal power source configuration is suggested based on an economic analysis by applying the climate data of the target area and power generation systems designed within the program [29]. Net Present Cost (NPC) is the main economic indicator of HOMER as a criterion for deriving economically optimal system configurations [30]. The NPC is calculated through the capital cost, replacement cost, and maintenance cost that occurred during the entire project period as follows [7]:…”

“…The scheme under consideration incorporates an optimization model [48,49]. The optimization formulation comprises an objective function [50][51][52]. Objective function includes min [53][54][55] (max [56][57][58]) term to calculate minimum (maximum) value of this function.…”

“…In [20], the authors emphasise that renewable energy solutions are appropriate for ongrid and off-grid applications, acting as a supporter for the utility network or rural location, and went ahead also to examine hybrid renewable energy power production systems with a focus on energy sustainability, reliability due to irregularities, techno-economic feasibility, and environmentally friendliness. At the same time, a techno-economic analysis of renewable energy-based micro-grids (MG) considering incentive policies was presented in [21] for developing countries such as Iran. The developed framework for the optimal planning of a renewable energy-based MG considering incentive policies indicates that the proposed incentive policies reduce the MG's total net present cost (NPC) and the amount of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions.…”
