Technically natural cosmological constant from supersymmetric 6D brane backreaction

Abstract: We provide an explicit example of a higher-dimensional model describing a nonsupersymmetric spectrum of 4D particles of mass M , whose 4D geometryincluding loop effects -has a curvature that is of orderwhere m KK is the extra-dimensional Kaluza-Klein scale and M p is the 4D Planck constant. m KK is stabilized and can in particular satisfy m KK ≪ M . The system consists of a (5+1)-dimensional model with a flux-stabilized supersymmetric bulk coupled to non-supersymmetric matter localized on a (3+1)-dimensional p… Show more

“…This is known not to be a good approximation in general for codimension-2 objects since in many cases it is the classical bulk back-reaction that cancels the brane tensions to allow the classical brane geometries to be flat [24,30,61]. (Indeed, it is this property -together with bulk supersymmetry -that underlies their use as a starting point for seeking solutions to the cosmological constant problem [25,27,62].) The regularized energy density for H and Φ is…”

“…The SM is the most general renormalizable theory that is possible given its particular particle content. Ideas for what lies beyond the SM are largely driven by technical naturalness arguments [73], and are motivated by the belief that the SM is an effective field theory [74].…”

“…The models have two (supersymmetric) micron-sized extra dimensions (see below for the origins of this size) setting the scale of the observed Dark Energy density, with ordinary Standard Model particles (but no MSSM superpartners for them) assumed to be localized on a brane 3 [6][7][8][9].…”
