Textile manufacturing has been one of the highest polluting industrial sectors. It represents about one-fifth of worldwide industrial water pollution. It uses a huge number of chemicals, numerous of which are carcinogenic. The textile industry releases many harmful chemicals, such as heavy metals and formaldehyde, into water streams and soil, as well as toxic gases such as suspended particulate matter and sulphur dioxide to air. These hazardous wastes, may cause diseases and severe problems to human health such as respiratory and heart diseases. Pollution caused by the worldwide textile manufacturing units results in unimaginable harm, such as textile polymers, auxiliaries and dyes, to the environment. This review presents a systematic and comprehensive survey of all recently produced high-performance textiles; and will therefore assist a deeper understanding of technical textiles providing a bridge between manufacturer and end-user. Moreover, the achievements in advanced applications of textile material will be extensively studied. Many classes of technical textiles were proved in a variety of applications of different fields. The introductory material- and process-correlated identifications regarding raw materials and their transformation into yarns, fibers and fabrics followed by dyeing, printing, finishing of technical textiles and their further processing will be explored. Thus, the environmental impacts of technical textiles on soil, air and water are discussed.

Tekstil endüstrisinin gelişme gösteren kollarından biri teknik tekstil ürünleridir. Teknik tekstiller arasında yer alan bina ve inşaat teknik tekstilleri yapı endüstrisinde yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Bina ve inşaat teknik tekstillerinin çevre dostu, hafif, yüksek performanslı ve sürdürülebilir çözümler sunması, bu malzemelerin kullanımını gün geçtikçe arttırmaktadır. Bu derleme çalışması ile bina ve inşaat teknik tekstilleri (buildtech) alt başlıklar halinde incelenmiş bu alanda son yıllarda yapılan çalışmalar irdelenmiştir. Artan çevresel ve ekolojik kaygılar ile birlikte bina ve inşaat teknik tekstilinde de sürdürülebilir ve yenilikçi uygulamalar ön plana çıkmış ve bu derleme çalışma içerisinde bu konu ele alınmıştır. Bu kapsamda elde edilen sonuçlara göre; bina ve inşaat teknik tekstillerinin sağladığı üstün özellikler sayesinde yapı ve inşaat sektöründe kullanımlarının giderek artacağı öngörülmektedir.

Coated fabrics and foils, used for architectural applications, are presented in the first part of this chapter. The current fibres and coatings available on the market are described in detail according to their performance, the advantages/ disadvantages and current applications in architecture. The second part is focused on the most common typologies of tension structures, the design process and the comparison with conventional roofing forms. The main physical and digital techniques for form-finding, static and dynamic analysis, patterning and manufacturing are described in detail. Architectural Fabric and FoilsIn membrane structures three main type of material are generally used: coated fabrics, open mesh fabrics and foils.Coated fabrics present a symmetrical structure of yarns arranged in two main orthogonal directions: warp and fill. The yarns consist of threads parallel or twisted together and can be made of several materials. While the structural function is mainly provided by the yarns, the protection from chemical and biological influences, fire-retardant behaviour, weld ability, waterproof qualities and UV ray resistance depend on the coating layer.For applications which do not require weather tightness, the use of open mesh fabrics is recently becoming quite popular. The weaving pattern can be designed in order to achieve the required level of solar protection and the design can take advantage of the reduced wind loads and of the substantial absence of ponding and wrinkles due to the permeable structure.
