Teamworking, System, and Service Interfaces in SCM

Abstract

This chapter outlines how mental health services can ensure effective integrated team and service interface working within a structured clinical management (SCM) pathway for borderline personality disorder (BPD). It then reviews some of the problems experienced across the whole healthcare system and how these can be understood within the SCM approach. Finally, it illustrates these issues through several practical examples of service-related problems and suggests practical solutions based on the SCM approach. Integration of clinical teams and services within a comprehensive healthcare system is an essential part of the care and treatment of people diagnosed with personality disorder, yet there are many different elements of treatment teams or services which do not always work in synchrony or follow agreed care plans and strategies.
