Spatial thinking is a unique thinking skill that geographers use to reason. Every individual is believed to have this thinking skill, but not all are aware of it. This condition causes differences in the development of each person. A person’s spatial thinking can be improved by training. Geospatial technology is a representation tool that many people believe can be used to train spatial thinking skills. However, not many people encounter obstacles when using this technology. The complexity of the command to run is an obstacle that is often found. In line with the development of geospatial technology, many applications integrate this technology as part of visualization tools. This teaching and learning were conducted with Action Research Classroom (three cycles) in the form of Project-Based Learning with Science, Engineering, Technology, and Mathematic (STEM) approach. This article discusses the findings of the research on the use of Excel dynamic map chart and virtual globe to improve spatial thinking in research subjects with the case study of Indonesian Geography and World Regional Geography. With the Excel application project, for the context of upper-level education, the findings show an increase in spatial thinking skills and mastery of the use of mapping platforms without the need for prior experience of coding, software, or cartography, although it needs to be corroborated by other studies.

Este artículo se centra en la problemática del aprendizaje del espacio geográfico por parte del alumnado de educación primaria. La propuesta de innovación tiene como objetivo mejorar el aprendizaje del espacio geográfico mediante el uso de herramientas tecnológicas lúdicas en el espacio urbano de la ciudad de Alicante. Las preguntas de investigación son ¿El uso de herramientas digitales como Google Earth y Pokémon Go ayudan a superar los problemas que tiene el alumnado en el espacio geográfico? y ¿Contribuye el espacio urbano de una ciudad al aprendizaje del espacio geográfico? La situación de aprendizaje se centra en cinco categorías del espacio geográfico: orientación, distribución, localización, relaciones espaciales y descentralización. El alumnado, mediante el aprovechamiento didáctico de las herramientas digitales como el juego Pokémon Go y Google Earth, aprende de manera lúdica este contenido didáctico de las Ciencias Sociales. El espacio urbano de Alicante y el uso de las tecnologías permiten superar los problemas del espacio geográfico que tienen los estudiantes.

Emerging virtual reality and augmented reality (VR/AR) technologies in education have the potential to revolutionize the whole educational experience. Studies have shown that before introducing the technology to their pupils, educators should do a thorough assessment of the technology’s viability and possible acceptance in the classroom. However, not much is synthesized from the body of knowledge about the leadership and coupling of VR and AR in education, including its trends and direction of research in other domains. In this article, the bibliometric and content analysis has shown that interest in virtual reality and augmented reality has increased from 2018 to 2022 in the Web of Science database. The patterns formed from Vosviewer in the bibliometric analysis have also portrayed that Virtual reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are used in many fields, including education, medicine, arts, engineering, business, and marketing. Other results from data mining showed the authors with the most publications in the field, their affiliated universities, and the source of publications. In the wake of the Covid-19 epidemic, these findings may also help improve educational opportunities for all students and the quality of instruction they receive. As implications, Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) harness current technology to put digital content in the actual world, enabling consumers to have a more meaningful interaction with it on desktop or hand-held devices. This bibliometric research shows that animation, 3D graphics, and sound may replace more traditional ways of schooling in the future.
