While the physical, psychological, and social benefits of physical activity have been touted for decades, few children in the U.S. are sufficiently active physically. We created a cross-age mentoring program to encourage children to not only engage in sports, but to also gain valuable personal and interpersonal skills from program activities. We interviewed 73 individuals from two community recreation centers-53 elementary school participants, 10 high-school student-athlete mentors, and 11 professional staff members-using semi-structured interviews. We found that cross-age mentorship program in sports created positive one-to-one and one-to-many relationships between the high school athlete mentors and the elementary school participants. Our grounded theory research demonstrates the efficacy of high school student-athletes as mentors in sports programs. We also have described in detail a program that is readily scalable because it is easy to implement, is cost-effective, and has benefits for all involved. Organizations such as after-school programs and community centers can design programs that bring these groups together and provide opportunities for learning and fun.

As the inaugural junior editorial board members of the Journal for Advancing Sport Psychology in Research (JASPR), we represent the first group of students to be embraced into, and integrated across all levels of, the editorial board of a sport, exercise, and performance psychology journal. To shed light on our unique experience behind the curtain of an academic journal, we engaged in a process of group and individual reflection following our term. The goal of our reflective process was to identify and share our collective and personal experiences of establishing and operating JASPR from January 2020 to December 2021. By sharing transparent and vulnerable insights into our lived experiences as the inaugural junior editorial board members of JASPR, our reflections (a) provide emotional and informational support to neophyte researchers occupying the role(s) of author, editor, and/or reviewer, and (b) highlight the value of student-centered initiatives for the advancement of sport, exercise, and performance psychology. Our collective and personal experinces are consolidated into three reflective themes: respect in peer review, gatekeepers of knowledge, and imposter syndrome. These reflective themes are followed by four key takeaway points that are intended to be suggestions for neophyte researchers to effectively navigate the role(s) of author, editor, and/or reviewer in sport, exercise, and performance psychology.

Introducción: El objetivo del estudio es presentar una experiencia docente en el campo de la psicología del deporte mediante entornos virtuales en una universidad colombiana, antes y durante la pandemia COVID-19. En tal sentido, se desarrolló el trabajo de intervención psicológica deportiva de evaluación e intervención que, durante la cuarentena, se realizaron en dos etapas, presencial y virtual. Se aplicaron instrumentos psicológicos, con la finalidad de evaluar los niveles de motivación y ansiedad precompetitiva; finalmente se realizaron charlas y conferencias virtuales para deportistas y entrenadores. Dentro de los principales resultados se obtuvo una elevada participación y adherencia a las conferencias y al trabajo de intervención virtual en los estudiantes atletas de la Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira.
