Taxonomic notes on the pantropical generaMacromitriumandMacrocoma(Bryopsida: Orthotrichaceae)

Abstract: New synonyms and distribution records are presented for the genera Macromitrium Brid. and Macrocoma (Hornsch. ex Mü ll.Hal.) Grout. Macromitrium seemannii Mitt., Macromitrium macropelma Mü ll.Hal. and Macromitrium nitidum Hook. f. & Wilson are placed in synonymy with Macromitrium microstomum (Hook. & Grev.) Schwä gr. This species is recorded as new to Malawi. Macromitrium scleropodium Besch. is synonymized with Macromitrium orthostichum Nees ex Schwä gr.
