A new neodymium(III) complex, [Nd 2 (C 10 H 9 NO) 4 (NO 3 ) 6 ], was prepared by reacting neodymium(III) nitrate with 8-hydroxy-2-methylquinoline in a fast and facile process. The complex was characterized by 1 H NMR, IR, and UV spectroscopies, single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and elemental analysis. The nanostructure of Nd 2 (C 10 H 9 NO) 4 (NO 3 ) 6 was also prepared by facile sonochemical synthesis at room temperature and characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and elemental analysis. Thermal stability of the single-crystal and nanoscale crystals of complex was investigated by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis. The photoluminescence properties of the nanostructured and bulk crystalline of the complex in the solid-state were investigated in detail at room temperature. The results indicate that the size of the complex particles has a remarkable effect on the optical properties of it. The nanoscale neodymium(III) complex displayed higher quantum yield than the neodymium(III) complex in the single-crystal form. Absorption and emission peaks of the nanoscale complex red shifted significantly in comparison with that of in the single-crystal form.

Square planar metallic and homonuclear bimetallic complexes of Pd(II) with 2-thiouracil (HTU) and organophosphines have been synthesized and characterized by FT-IR and multinuclear 1 H, 13 C, 31 P NMR spectroscopy. The thiouracil ligand TU acts as bidentate, is bound through the thioxo moiety and the endo amino group and forms a bridge between a PdCl(R 3 P) and a PdCl(R 3 P) 2 moiety [R 3 P = Ph 3 P (o-tolyl) 3 P, ClPh 2 P] in the homonuclear bimetallic complexes. The square planar geometry around Pd(II) has been confirmed for these complexes by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study of compound 1, [Pd 2 (TU)(PPh 3 ) 3 Cl 2 ]. These compounds were also screened against human tumor cell lines and showed promising in vitro cytotoxicity.

Abstract. In whatever state of bonding -whether covalent to an organic residue or a heteroatom, or polar to ionic in contact with a metal -the azide moiety N 3 is characterized by its high potential of reactivity which essentially manifests itself in two basic processes: the elimination of dinitrogen and the entry into 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions with suitable dipolarophiles, the latter of which clearly predominates the chemistry of azide, also that of its metal compounds. In a preceding review entitled "Part I -Metal Azides: Overview, General Trends and Recent Developments" which was meant to lay the foundations for the present paper, these and other reactions have already been touched upon. The present review -Part II -now focusses in great detail on the formation of five-membered heterocyclestetrazol(at)es, triazol(at)es, triazolin(at)es, thiatriazol(at)es, etc. as well as various consecutive products -from azide and nitriles, isocyanides, alkynes, alkenes and heteroallenes (CS 2 , RN=C=S) in the ligand sphere of the metal.
