Tau neutrino deep inelastic charged current interactions

Abstract: The ν µ → ν τ oscillation hypothesis will be tested through ν τ production of τ in underground neutrino telescopes as well as long-baseline experiments. We provide the full QCD framework for the evaluation of tau neutrino deep inelastic charged current (CC) cross sections, including next-leading-order (NLO) corrections, charm production, tau threshold, and target mass effects in the collinear approximation. We investigate the violation of the Albright-Jarlskog relations for the structure functions F 4,5 which … Show more

“…Transitions from F 1,2,3 (x, Q 2 ) to target mass corrected (TMC) SFs, F TMC i (x, Q 2 ), are performed according to Ref. [15,16]. Below we do not discuss the complicated problem of the nuclear effects in the DIS SFs and focus only on purely (anti)neutrino-nucleon reactions.…”

“…One of the themes of these papers is of course the calculation of the τ production cross-section, both differential and integrated, and that of the τ polarization which is necessary to predict the angular distribution of the decay products into various channels, see e.g. [1][2] [3] However, not all these papers give simple recipes which can easily be implemented in simulation programs. We therefore thought it useful to write this note which describes the way we calculated the cross-section and polarisation and implemented them in the simulation which served many years ago to prepare the proposal for the NOMAD experiment [8].…”
