“…To measure proof-reading performance, a proof-reading task was constructed that required participants to find three types of errors: spelling, grammar, and APA format errors. From a psychological journal article on taste potentiation in mice (Davis, Bailey, Becker, & Grover, 1990), the abstract, introduction, method, results, and discussion sections were extracted to form a text comprising 1,126 words (6,073 characters) distributed over 107 lines. After revising the text to conform with British spelling and APA format (American Psychological Association, 2001), the text was modified by inserting 30 errors: 11 spelling errors, 9 grammar errors, and 10 APA format errors.…”
