Targeting of Silver Cations, Silver-Cystine Complexes, Ag Nanoclusters, and Nanoparticles towards SARS-CoV-2 RNA and Recombinant Virion Proteins

Abstract: Nanosilver possesses antiviral, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-angiogenesis, antiplatelet, and anticancer properties. The development of disinfectants, inactivated vaccines, and combined etiotropic and immunomodulation therapy against respiratory viral infections, including COVID-19, remains urgent. Aim: Our goal was to determine the SARS-CoV-2 molecular targets (genomic RNA and the structural virion proteins S and N) for silver-containing nanomaterials. Methods: SARS-CoV-2 gene cloning, purification o… Show more

“…Thus, we not only must inactivate the virus but also must clear the excess cytokines if we want to promote the rehabilitation of patients. After considering these issues, some researchers have performed related studies 208 , 209 . For example, Rao et al 46 prepared engineered cell membrane nanodecoys that fused cell membrane nanovesicles derived from 293T/ACE2 cells with those from human myeloid mononuclear THP-1 cells.…”

“…Alternatively, the effects of copper may be augmented with other topical coadditives 129 . Silver in itself does not appear to confer considerable antiviral effects, but silver nanoparticles have had some efficacy in vitro and there is some theoretical support for its use 125,130,132,133 . Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide coatings also show antiviral activity 134,135 .…”

“…The antimicrobial activity of silver is proposed and applied as an instrument to fight the COVID-19 pandemic. Ag 0 nanoparticles (NPs) have for example been demonstrated to be active against SARS-CoV-2 ( Almanza-Reyes et al, 2021 ; Morozova et al, 2022 ).…”
