Targeting Immune Cell Metabolism in the Treatment of Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Abstract: The cells of the immune system are highly dynamic, constantly sensing and adapting to changes in their surroundings. Complex metabolic pathways govern leukocytes’ ability to fine-tune their responses to external threats. Mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 and hypoxia inducible factor are important hubs of these pathways and play a critical role coordinating cell activation and proliferation and cytokine production. For this reason, these molecules are attractive therapeutic targets in inflammatory disease… Show more

“…In the peripheral blood of IBD patients and in vivo animal models, there is usually an increase in Th17 cells and a decrease in Treg cells [ 314 ]. Recent studies have shown that the immunometabolic processes in IBD mainly involve T cells, monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, and natural killer cells [ 315 ]. Immune cells produce inflammatory cytokines, which play an important role in regulating the inflammatory response process.…”

“…[ [66][67][68] miR-1-3p MiR-1-3p is downregulated in HCC cell lines. PLOS ONE [93]. ZNF354C play a vital role in the dissociation of the complex from CHD1L and BCL9 promoters to abolish the transcription inhibition, suggesting its potential target for diagnosis and treatment of HCC [60].…”

“…Inflammasomes are multiprotein complexes that have a direct role in the inflammatory process by causing caspase-1, interleukin 1 (IL-1), and interleukin I8 (IL-8) to become overactive [ 143 , 144 , 145 , 146 ]. Inflammasome development is aided by five pattern recognition receptor (PRR) candidates.…”
