Targeted therapy for non‐small‐cell lung cancer: New insights into regulated cell death combined with immunotherapy

Shutong Li,

et al.

Abstract: SummaryNon‐small‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC), which has a high rate of metastatic spread and drug resistance, is the most common subtype of lung cancer. Therefore, NSCLC patients have a very poor prognosis and a very low chance of survival. Human cancers are closely linked to regulated cell death (RCD), such as apoptosis, autophagy, ferroptosis, pyroptosis, and necroptosis. Currently, small‐molecule compounds targeting various types of RCD have shown potential as anticancer treatments. Moreover, RCD appears to be… Show more

“…Non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a common type of lung cancer. [ 1,2 ] Surgery is the main treatment for NSCLC, however, patients with locally advanced NSCLC still face a high risk of recurrence and metastasis after surgery. [ 3,4 ] Therefore, exploring the potential molecular targets that affect the progression of NSCLC may provide new biomarkers for the treatment of NSCLC.…”

“…Pathologically, lung cancers are classified into small-cell lung cancers (SCLC) and non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC). Of these, about 85% of lung cancers are NSCLCs, which include lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) [ 2 ]. Patients diagnosed with lung cancer typically exhibit advanced-stage disease, often accompanied by distant metastases at the onset of symptoms.…”

“…Cell death is fundamental for the development and homeostasis of organisms. [1][2][3] Necroptosis is a caspase-independent modality of programmed cell death (PCD), which was first proposed by Degterev in 2005. 4,5 Necroptosis can be initiated by death receptors and pathogen receptors, involving clumping dying cells, rupture of cell membrane, swelling of cell bodies and organelles, and inflammasome formation.…”
