Targeted 307 nm UVB‐phototherapy in psoriasis. A pilot study comparing a 307 nm excimer light with topical dithranol

Abstract: The 307 nm excimer light therapy for plaque type psoriasis was equipotent to twice daily topical dithranol. Efficacy, safety, and convenience suggest that targeted UVB therapy with quasi monochromatic light is a new useful treatment option for patients with limited psoriatic plaques.

“…Targeted UVB treatments such as excimer laser (308 nm), excimer light (308 nm), and targeted NB-UVB light (311-313 nm) are well suited and recommended for treating localized psoriatic lesions. 80,[90][91][92][93][94][95] An advantage of targeted phototherapy is that it spares unaffected skin, permitting higher doses, faster clearing, and less risk. Because only small areas are treated, burns are generally well tolerated when they occur.…”

“…Furthermore, the setup may also be useful for measurements during or before a skin operation to determine the exact areas to be cut out. Another potential application is the monitoring of psoriasis lesions whilst a psoriasis (photo)-therapy [13]. In this work, however, only ex vivo measurements on excised human skin lesions and its healthy surrounding are presented.…”
