Target software generation: an approach for automatic mapping of SystemC specifications onto real-time operating systems

Abstract: In this paper we present a new approach for automated target code generation for given real-time operating systems out of SystemC to support platform independent software development. Since SystemC becomes the most important language in electronic system level design, the support of a seamless design flow becomes an important task. During the system design process, SystemC is used to develop a "Golden Reference Model" that provides a well-suited platform for specification, simulation, and verification of embed… Show more

“…This approach, in advantage, uses the same model both for specification and target execution, however, it potentially replicates aspects of the simulation engine on the target. Other approaches focus on the RTOS integration, such as Krause et al [22] which generates source code from SystemC for application to RTOS mapping, and Gauthier et al [14] for generation of an application-specific operating system.…”

“…Our proposed solution shows neither limitation. Krause et al [18] generate source code from SystemC mapped onto an RTOS. In addition to RTOS mapping, our approach generates detailed communication and synchronization code, and the final target binary.…”

“…[1,5,9,12] consider C++ code generation for a target RTOS from the SystemC language. In [15], ANSI C code generation from SpecC models is discussed.…”

“…One ultimate goal is to allow for early embedded SW development based on a virtual prototype of the HW platform. Much work has been done in embedded SW generation from a transaction-level description [1,2,5,9,12,15]. Typical to these approaches is that the SW developers are obliged to use a dedicated TLM API in order to access the functionality of HW IP.…”
