TANAMI: Multiwavelength and multimessenger observations of active galaxies

Abstract: Extragalactic jets launched from the immediate vicinity of supermassive black holes in radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGN) are key objects in modern astronomy and astroparticle physics. AGN jets carry a fraction of the total gravitational energy released during the accretion of matter onto supermassive black holes and are prime suspects as possible sources of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays and the recently detected extraterrestrial neutrinos at PeV energies. TANAMI (Tracking Active galactic Nuclei with Austr… Show more

“…This is the second in a series of papers presenting results from broadband observations of PKS 2004−447. The observations reported in this series were conducted as part of the TANAMI 2 multiwavelength programme (Ojha et al 2010;Kadler et al 2015) that monitors γ-ray loud AGNs south of −30 • declination. In a separate paper (Kreikenbohm et al 2016, hereafter Paper I), we discussed X-ray observations with XMM-Newton and Swift, finding a flat blazar-like power law and moderate variability on time scales down to months with an observed luminosity of (0.7-2.6) ×10 44 erg/s.…”

“…An extensive multiwavelength study of PMN J1603-4904 (Müller et al 2014(Müller et al , 2015, conducted within the framework of the TANAMI program (Ojha et al 2010;Kadler et al 2015), suggested it was not a blazar. Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) observations indicate a CSO-like morphology.…”

“…Note the different angular resolutions and beam shapes for each epoch due to the different configurations of the TANAMI VLBI array. See also the corresponding proper motion movie presented in Kadler et al (2015). the jet flow is interrupted and widens up, but remains collimated downstream.…”
