Background: The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Wuhan, Hubei province, has led to the quarantine of many residents in their homes, in order to mitigate its spread. Some of these people developed mental health problems, and many solutions have been put in place to address the mental health issues of patients and health professionals affected by the disease. However, not much attention has been given to students, particularly those from medical school. The present study aims to conduct an online survey to investigate the mental health status of students from a medical college in Hubei province. Materials and Methods: The WeChat-based survey program Questionnaire Star, which contained questions from Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), was utilized for the present study. Results: A total of 217 students participated in the survey. Among these students, 127 were female and 90 were male. Furthermore, 77 students (35.5%) who participated in the survey were in a state of depression, and 48 (22.1%) were in a state of anxiety. The majority of students who were in depressed (n=75) or anxiety (n=46) states had mild or moderate states. There were no significant differences in students in terms of gender, geographical location, and grade, for the prevalence of depression and anxiety. Conclusion: The present study implies that universities need to take measures to prevent, identify, and deal with mental health problems among students during large-scale stressors.

Some of these people might develop mental health problems, and many solutions have been put in place to address the mental health issues of patients and health professionals affected by the disease. However, not much attention has been given to international students studying in China. The present study aims to conduct an online survey to investigate the mental health status of international students from Changsha city, China.Materials and Methods: A WeChat-based survey program comprised of questions on demographic information gender, grade year, duration and status of quarantine, duration of sleep, worries about graduation, being able to go to school and presence or absence of a sense of security; as well as questions from the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) scale and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI).Results: The prevalence of depression was 59.4% and the prevalence of anxiety was 37.8%. The STAI-Y1 STATE scores had a mean value (mean) of 41.42, standard deviation (S.D) of 10.89 and STAI-Y2 TRAIT scores had a mean value (mean) of 41.85, standard deviation (S.D) of 11.13. The risk factors of anxiety or depression were Sleep duration, worrying about graduation in varying degrees, School time, and feeling secure in varying degrees. Higher the Patient Health Questionnaire-9 score and higher Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 score and higher STAI-Y1 STATE scores were associated with higher STAI-Y2 TRAIT scores.Conclusion: The present study implies that the university needs to consider planning for acute and long-term psychological help services for international students.

To evaluate the reliability and validity of the Patient Health Questionnaire‐9 (PHQ‐9) in patients with acne. Three hundred acne patients were enrolled from January 2019 to December 2019. PHQ‐9 and Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD) survey was conducted to evaluate their depression status. Cronbach's α coefficient and test‐retest reliability after 1 week were used to analyze the reliability of PHQ‐9. Factor analysis, Spearman correlation analysis, receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC curve) were used for validity analysis of the PHQ‐9.The screening validity was analyzed in different subgroups. Two hundred fifty‐eight patients with acne completed the questionnaire. Forty‐seven were diagnosed with depressive disorder. The best cut‐off point for the PHQ‐9 score is 9 points, with a sensitivity of 95.7%,a specificity of 88.6% and the area under the ROC curve(AUC) of 0.973.In validity analysis, the correlation coefficient between the total score of PHQ‐9 and HAMD was 0.766,the kappa value was 0.530.Factor analysis revealed two common factors (cognitive‐affective factor and somatic symptom factor),which explained 65.52% of the total variances. In reliability analysis, the Cronbach's α coefficient of the PHQ‐9 was 0.851,the test‐retest reliability value was 0.824.The time to complete the PHQ‐9 was significantly less than the time to complete HAMD (P < .001).The PHQ‐9 shows good reliability and validity for the diagnosis of depression in patients with acne, and can be used for preliminary screening of depression.
