Talc-graphite schist as a natural organo-mineral complex for methylene blue remediation: kinetic and isotherm study

Abstract: Talc-graphite schist (TGSH) is a natural organo-mineral complex that was derived from the regional metamorphism of organic matter-bearing calcareous clays under the lowest temperature and pressure of the green schist facies (573-632 K and 1-3 Kbars, respectively). The application of TGSH that is widely available in the Meatiq area (Eastern Desert, Egypt) was investigated for the first time ever in the remediation of methylene blue dye (MB) from aqueous solutions. The characterization of the TGSH was carried ou… Show more

“…These latter peaks could be ascribed to the γ-phase carbon. 45 Meanwhile, the strong diffraction peak at 2 θ ≈ 25.01° & 26.85° in AC that was recorded as proto-peaks in the precursor SBC (2 θ ≈ 24.5–26.7°) 46 indicates the crystalline carbon. 45 The (002) graphite reflection plane with d (002) ≈ 3.32 Å in the derivative AC was reflected by the strong peak at 2 θ ≈ 26.85°.…”

“…Barrett–Joyner–Halina equation was used to estimate pore volume ( V t ) and pore diameter ( D o ), while the Brunauer–Emmett and Teller equation was applied to determine BET surface area ( S BET ). [ 65 ]…”

“…The surface areas of both dyes and PA-NWNF (undyed and dyed) were investigated using a Nova Touch LX4 equipment (BET, Quantachrome, USA). Applying the BET approach, N 2 adsorption/desorption tests evaluated the surface area at 77.35 K. The Brunauer-Emmett-Teller equation was used to determine the S BET [43].…”
