Takotsubo syndrome‐associated ventricular standstill in a peripartum patient: case report and review of the literature

Abstract: Key Clinical MessageTakotsubo syndrome is classically characterized by apical ballooning and left ventricle akinesis associated with an underlying catecholamine surge. In patients with suspected Takotsubo syndrome, clinicians should be vigilant for acute coronary syndrome and arrhythmias. Ventricular standstill with underlying Takotsubo syndrome should be managed with a dual‐chambered pacemaker to improve patient outcome.

“…84,85 Asystole/Atrioventricular Block Syncope and/or asystolic cardiac arrest due to high degree AV block or sinus arrest have been described in patients with TTS. [86][87][88][89] In patients with persistent AV block, a permanent pacemaker is implanted. 90 Importantly, any bradyarrhythmia, including complete AV block, may facilitate or trigger the occurrence of TdP via the mechanism of long-short sequence.…”

“…Blue nevus has been reported in the lymph nodes, parotid, and prostate glands 4 . In the oral cavity, blue nevus accounts for one-third of all oral mucosal melanocytic nevi, with the palate being the most common location 1,3 . This case report describes the clinical and histopathologic features of a common blue nevus located within the minor salivary gland tissue of the hard palate.…”

“…In VS, there is a lack of impulse formation in the cardiac conduction system which in turn causes the heart to stop beating at all. 6,7 During such episodes, lack of awareness of VS as a potential etiology may lead to delays in definitive care. 3 Here, we present a case of a patient who had numerous syncopal episodes and subsequent cardiac arrest as a result of underlying VS.…”
