Taking detection to the limit with optical microcavities: Recent advances presented at the 560. WE Heraeus Seminar

Abstract: Abstract. We provide a review on the applications of whispering gallery mode resonators in sensing, and biosensing in particular. We highlight the most recent developments in this area, which were presented at the 560. WE Heraeus Seminar "Taking Detection to the Limit -Biosensing with Optical Microcavities".

“…Limit of detection (LOD) is one of the indicators to evaluate the performance of microring configuration in sensing application. LOD can be described as the minimum detectable change (Guider et al, 2015), which is directly related to free spectral range (FSR) (Vollmer & Schwefel, 2014). FSR can be interpreted as the distance between two adjacent peaks (Bogaerts et al, 2012).…”

“…113 Purely dielectric WGM resonators have been investigated in detail over the last decade. 2,7,11,28,29,96,[114][115][116][117][118][119][120][121] The most influential papers on WGM single particle detection are analyzed in Table 2, where we report the principal parameters of the involved structures and their detection capabilities.…”
