Tailoring the Texture and Mechanical Anisotropy of Multi-cross Rolled Mg–Zn–Gd Alloy by Annealing

Abstract: The unidirectional rolled Mg-Zn-Gd sheet usually exhibited non-basal texture with two peaks whose tilting angle were about 42° from normal direction to transverse direction (TD), which would cause the mechanical anisotropy. In this study, multi-cross rolling followed by annealing was used to tailor the texture and mechanical anisotropy for Mg-Zn-Gd alloy. With increasing annealing temperature, the rolled basal texture with two peaks gradually transformed into the circle texture with multi-peaks. In order to fi… Show more

“…Finding effective ways to promote the strength of magnesium alloy is a world-class problem. Adding rare earth elements is a valid way to promote the strength of magnesium alloys, but rare earths are very expensive and scarce, which limits their application [3,4]. In recent years, the Mg-Ca system magnesium alloys, which do not contain rare earth elements and have higher strength, have attracted much attention.…”

“…Magnesium alloys have the significant effect of reducing weight in the automotive and aerospace industries due to their low density and high specific strength [ 6 , 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 , 11 , 12 , 13 ]. In recent years, rare earth magnesium alloys have received increasing attention due to their high performance at both room and high temperatures [ 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ].…”
