Tailoring the magnetic anisotropy of cobalt-gold thin lms

Abstract: Magnetic cobalt-gold thin films (Co x Au (1−x) ) are grown on silicon (100) surfaces by using a sputter deposition technique. Magnetic anisotropy of the films is investigated by ferromagnetic resonance (FMR). Magnetic properties are explored by micromagnetic simulations based on the metropolis algorithm. Effective magnetic anisotropy is gradually increased with Co concentration. In-plane axial anisotropy exists for all samples and it is enhanced with a Co concentration of ∼ 40%, corresponding optimal cluster s… Show more

“…To compare the effect of ion irradiation to thermal annealing, the same magnetic material has been consecutively annealed for three hours at 200, 265 and 300 • C at a pressure of 10 −7 mbar. In order to avoid a magnetization induced preferential direction of ordering 26,32 , external magnetic fields have been minimized during the irradiation and annealing steps. The thin film magnetic properties have been measured with Kerr microscopy and VSM.…”
