“…Another area in considerable expansion is extraction of secondary metabolites from plants using hydrophobic (D)ESs through microextraction techniques. Cao et al . demonstrated the efficiency of hydrophobic (D)ESs as designer solvents in the extraction of polyprenyl acetates from ginkgo biloba leaves.…”

“…The first hydrophobic (D)ES reported were based on quaternary ammonium salts with long alkyl chains and decanoic acid, where the hydrophobic characterw as confirmed by studying the leachingo f( D)ES components into the water phase and water uptake. [11a] Following the same idea, severals tudies on the use of quaternary ammonium salts with long alkyl chains were then performed, [11,[13][14][15][16] using HBDs with different chemical structures,s uch as carboxylic acids and alcohols with different alkyl chains (C 2 -C 18 )a nd with double bonds. Regarding the use of [N 4444 ]Cl and [N 4444 ]Br,h ydrophobic (D)ES could be prepared using these compounds and two phases were obtained when in contact with water.T heir chemical stability will be discussed below and conclusions drawn.…”

“…Additionally, the utilisation of the reported method, such as ultrasound‐assisted extraction (UAE), pressurised liquid extraction and heat reflux extraction normally required large amounts of energy, which would increase the energy consumption . In comparison, DESs have been used as solvents to extract prenyl‐containing compounds and flavonol glycosides, and show obvious advantages …”

“…[32][33][34] In comparison, DESs have been used as solvents to extract prenyl-containing compounds and flavonol glycosides, and show obvious advantages. 8,[35][36][37] In the present study, an efficient extraction method using DES was developed for the extraction of prenylflavonoid glucosides from E. pubescens without using organic solvents and expensive specialised instrumentation. A series of DESs were synthesised and screened for their extraction efficiency.…”
