Taguchi optimization of various parameters for tribological performance of polyalphaolefins based nanolubricants

Abstract: This research paper addresses the optimization of various control parameters by using the Taguchi method to assess the tribological properties of PAOs based nanolubricants. The concentration of COOH-functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), applied load, sliding velocity and kinematic viscosity of polyalphaolefins (PAOs) were selected as process parameters or control factor. The MWCNTs at a varying concentration (0.025-0.15 wt.%) were blended separately in PAOs to formulate the nanolubricants. The … Show more

“…This approach is based on orthogonal arrays and ANOVA to reduce the number of tests and to efficiently increase product consistency. 30 During this investigation, to predict the WR and COF for the produced composites under dry sliding condition by using the various control parameters. In Taguchi method, three objective of S/N ratio are used to predict the response.…”

“…14 A broad vibrational peak at $1052 cm À1 was ascribed to C O functionalities. 2 The vibrational peak at $1552 cm À1 and another peak at $1637 cm À1 are attributed to in-plane stretching of the sp 2 -hybridised structure (υC C). 25,41 The vibrational peaks in the range between 2800 and 3000 cm À1 were explicitly evident as asymmetric and symmetric stretches of methylene and methyl chains.…”

“…Polyalphaolefins (PAOs) are well-known saturated olefin oligomers that are gaining popularity as highperformance lubricants. 2 PAOs have a higher viscosity index, low-temperature fluidity, better oxidation stability, lower volatility and lower evaporation losses than mineral oils. 3 The performance of a lubricant can be improved by blending additives.…”

“…Hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) nanoparticles as an additive and its effect on extreme pressure properties of lube oil was investigated and observed improvement in load-bearing capacity and delayed seizure (Abdullah et al, 2016). Kumar and Harsha (2020) observed that the kinetic viscosity of Polyalphaolefins and concentration of nano-particles show significant influence in the wear preventive properties of the lubricant.…”
