TACC2 (transforming acidic coiled‐coil protein 2) in breast carcinoma as a potent prognostic predictor associated with cell proliferation

Abstract: Transforming acidic coiled‐coil protein 2 (TACC2) belongs to TACC family proteins and involved in a variety of cellular processes through interactions with some molecules involved in centrosomes/microtubules dynamics. Mounting evidence suggests that TACCs is implicated in the progression of some human malignancies, but significance of TACC2 protein in breast carcinoma is still unknown. Therefore, in this study, we examined the clinical significance of TACC2 in breast carcinoma and biological functions by immun… Show more

“…In this study, we found that steady-state levels of TACC2 protein, but not mRNA, are substantially depleted in the lung of smokers with severe COPD compared with smokers without COPD. Several studies investigated a potential role of TACC2 protein in tumorogenesis (17,29,30). Interestingly, the gene expression of anti-zuai-1 (AZU-1), a TACC2 splice variant, is significantly decreased in breast cancer cell lines and in primary tumors compared with nonmalignant cells and tissues (29).…”

“…But we do notice that some members of this group of genes have a more significant impact on the patient risk such as CCDC83, PPFIBP2, KRT80, GADD45A, TANK, CCDC57, SLC34A1, RPS25 and TACC2, because they predict the most significant difference in patient survival when combined (Figure 6G ). Among this short list, GADD45A, TANK and TACC2 are already known risk related factor in breast cancer [ 51 53 ].…”

“…To the contrary, Shan Cheng et al demonstrated overexpression of TACC2 in breast cancer patient which correlated with poor prognosis of a patient [ 10 ]. Recent study performed by Yoshiaki Onodera et al also demonstrated TACC2 plays a crucial role in breast cancer cell proliferation and TACC2 status was significantly associated with recurrence and worse prognosis of breast cancer patient [ 11 ]. Similarly, Kenichi Takayama et al also demonstrated overexpression of TACC2 in prostate cancer which promotes tumor progression in prostate cancer by regulating cell cycle during mitosis and high TACC2 immunoreactivity correlated with poor prognosis [ 9 ].…”

“…TACC2 promotes androgen mediated growth in the prostate cancer [ 9 ]. Overexpression of TACC2 leads to proliferation of breast cancer cell and associates with poor prognosis [ 10 , 11 ]. High levels of TACC2 have been shown to be significantly associated with a poor event-free survival in the infant acute lymphoblastic leukemia [ 12 ].…”
