T-Site Selective Photocleavage of DNA by Cationic Schiff Base Complex of Manganese(III)

Abstract: Manganese(III)-Schiff base complexes of cationic salen and salph derivatives were newly prepared and their molecular structures were determined by X-ray crystal structure analysis. The cationic salph complex effectively cleaved T-site of DNA in ca. 88% selectivity upon visible light irradiation.

“…Synthesis of [Mn(5‐TMAMsaltmen)(H 2 O) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 3 ⋅H 2 O : [Mn(5‐TMAMsaltmen)(H 2 O) 2 ](ClO 4 ) 3 ⋅ H 2 O as a precursor for compound 1 was synthesized by using the literature method 37. Mn(CH 3 CO 2 ) 3 ⋅ 2 H 2 O (0.912 g, 3.40 mmol) was added to a solution containing 5‐(trimethylammoniummethyl)salicylaldehyde chloride (1.362 g, 6.80 mmol) and NaOH (0.08 g, 2.00 mmol) in water (50 mL).…”
