This study focuses on a comparison of two sets of in-depth, face-to-face interviews among Romanians living in Poland about their perceptions of the country and society, and their migrant experiences. The interviews were conducted five years apart, using the same guide, but carried out by Polish interviewers in the first case, and by a Romanian interviewer in the second. Comparative analysis of the material gained in this process reveals that, despite similar content in interviewee responses, the standing of the interviewer was by no means neutral. Crucial for the volume, type, and nature of the collected data – as well as for its interpretation – is the interviewer’s identity. In this regard, the study draws on Michael’s Herzfeld’s concept of ‘cultural intimacy’ to explain the mutual reproduction of different levels of identity and to develop a framework for analyzing the interaction between the social scientists and their interlocutors.

Celem artykułu jest analiza Ubera jako socjo-technicznej sieci i zrekonstruowanie roli poszczególnych aktorów (ludzkich i pozaludzkich) przy wykorzystaniu pojęć i kategorii ANT. Czynniki pozaludzkie spełniają tutaj rolę społecznego kleju w tworzeniu odpowiednich sieci translacji związanych z pracą kierowców Ubera. Wykorzystując teorię aktora--sieci jako inspirację teoretyczną, w artykule staram się odpowiedzieć na pytanie, czy aplikacja pełni rolę zapośredniczenia czy mediatora oraz jakie są zakulisowe wymiary Ubera. Pokazuję również, że aplikacja jest produktem rynkowym, a niektóre interesy Ubera mają charakter ukryty. W pracy wykorzystano wyniki wywiadów pogłębionych (IDI) z kierowcami Ubera zrealizowane w Warszawie w 2018 roku, a także wyniki analizy postów zamieszczanych w mediach społecznościowych w zamkniętych grupach dyskusyjnych.

“…Powszechnie przyznaje się, że pokolenie średnie, a zwłaszcza najmłodsze, po arumuńsku mówi najczęściej słabo. Środowisko miejskie, a szczególnie wielkomiejskie, wpływa, podobnie jak w przypadku innych wspólnot (Nowicka 2012;Głowacka-Grajper, Nowicka, Połeć 2013), na zanik języka arumuńskiego, natomiast na wsiach jego znajomość jest lepsza. Mniejszość arumuńska, znająca swoją mowę etniczną, musi być dwujęzyczna, a język dominujący w państwie bezwzględnie staje się dla młodszych pokoleń ważniejszy.…”

Since 1962, when Zbigniew Gołąb has published his fundamental study on Aromanian language in Macedonia, in Polish literature, beyond his study, there was a little interest in Aromanians as an ethnic group and in their language. In this article, the author focuses on 1) the changes the Aromanian language has been undergoing in the recent times, 2) how the transformation of the social situation of Aromanians influences the development of the language. In the present days, the social function of the ethnic language is transformed from the language of everyday use to the language as a symbol, label, marker of ethnicity, used in the special occasions. Opinions expressed by Aromanian intellectuals about their ethnic language, role in Aromanian social life, and their dilemmas, sorrows and enthusiasm, as well as activities around the ethnic language are the main objects of interest in the paper. The empirical material, applied to this study, was collected during the anthropological field research the author conducted in the summer seasons from 2007 till 2010 in all countries of residence of Aromanians:
