Systemic treatments for women with breast cancer: outcome with relation to screening for the disease

Abstract: Early detection and proper care of breast cancer are currently the best available approaches to the treatment of patients with the disease. In countries with a breast cancer screening programme, there has been a demonstrated reduction in breast cancer-related mortality. Such reduction has also been observed in Switzerland, a country in which no national programme of screening is available. Although there is no doubt that early diagnosis might have had a major role in reducing breast cancer mortality the magnit… Show more

“…While protein bound paclitaxel can be administered more quickly and is considered water-soluble [15,53], the underlying problems with side effects and damage to normal, healthy cells and tissues still remains. As such, treatment effectiveness is still based not only on cancer stage at diagnosis, but also patient responsiveness and the overall health of the patient [41,[54][55][56].…”

“…Although early detection of cancer has improved survival for a number of cancers, including breast cancer [29], colon cancer [3032], prostate cancer [33, 34], and cervical cancer [35], existing serum biomarkers for breast cancer are not adequate for early detection. The possibility of early detection of breast cancer may be realized through both noninvasive (i.e., imaging technologies) and invasive means (patient serum profiling).…”

“…Early detection of cancer has improved survival for several cancers, including breast, 11 colon, [12][13][14] prostate, 15,16 and cervical cancers. 17 Early detection of PDAC may be possible through both noninvasive (i.e., imaging technologies) and invasive means (analysis of pancreatic juice and patient serum profiling).…”
