Systematic regularity of solar coronal rotation during the time interval 1939–2019

Abstract: Temporal variation of the solar coronal rotation appears to be very complex and its relevances to the eleven-year solar activity cycle are still unclear. Using the modified coronal index for the time interval from 1939 January 1 to 2019 May 31, the systematic regularities of the solar coronal rotation are investigated. Our main findings are as follows: (1) from a global point of view, the synodic coronal rotation period with a value of 27.5 days is the only significant period at the periodic scales shorter tha… Show more

“…The Sun rotates little extra due to the simultaneous rotation of Earth along with Sun during each of its rotation. So, we have to find the actual period known as sidereal rotation period, To, which can simply be calculated using the well known formula (Chandra et al 2009;Deng et al 2020),…”

“…Although the curves in some cases are not so smooth (like in case of 1415 MHz emission), even though the difference between two consecutive peaks and valley of cross-correlation coefficient have years difference of almost 22-26 yrs. This peak to peak or valley to valley difference may be because of the presence of longer duration periodic components in rotation period which may have the some influence on 22 years magnetic field reversal cycle (Chandra, & Vats 2011;Deng et al 2020;Xu, Gao & Shi 2020).…”

“…In 1848, the Swiss astronomer Rudolf Wolf introduced a method for registering solar activity by counting the number of visible sunspots, known as the Wolf number, also known worldwide as the International Sunspot Index. This method, updated in 2014 by several authors [1], has been used in the solar activity records for the last 400 years [2] and continues to be a rigorous method used in much research today [3] [4]. Since 1981, the Solar Influences Data Analysis Center (SIDC) is the world data center for the Wolf number.…”

“…In recent years, as a special and important tool, the extreme value theory (EVT) has been applied in various science fields and got some marvel findings. EVT has been used on climate change [10][11][12][13], economics [14], engineering [15], and astrophysics [16][17][18]. For example, Ref.…”
