Systematic Identification and Analysis of Lysine Succinylation in Strawberry Stigmata

Abstract: The various post-translational modifications of plant proteins have important regulatory roles in development. We therefore examined various modified proteins from strawberry stigmata and found that succinylation of lysine residues was the most abundant type of modification. We then subjected proteins from strawberry stigmata to an efficient enrichment method for succinylated peptides and identified 200 uniquely succinylated lysines in 116 proteins. A bioinformatics analysis revealed that these proteins are in… Show more

“…Therefore, proteins with K or R in corresponding sites are more easily to be the preferred substrates of lysine succinyltransferase in G. lucidum . It is noteworthy that the conserved motifs form strawberry stigmata [11], common wheat [7], C. albicans [12], and V. parahemolyticus [14] are different, indicating that different species contain unique succinylated proteins with specific functions.…”

“…7c). Among these motifs, K su (X4) K and K su (X7) K were previously identified in other plant species [16,18,19,[21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28]32]. Notably, K su (X7) K was also observed in the marine bacterium [33], indicating that some motifs might be conservative between plant and bacteria.…”

“…But the number of succinylated proteins in Ananas comosus var. bracteatus was much higher than that in strawberry stigmata [23], common wheat [24], rice seeds [25], tomato [26], Taxus×media [27], Brachypodium distachyon [28], Dendrobium officinale [29]. In physiological level, different species and tissues may possess differential profile of succinylation.…”
