Systematic construction and validation of an epithelial–mesenchymal transition risk model to predict prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma

Abstract: Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) has been shown to be linked to a poor prognosis, particularly in patients with non-small-cell lung cancer. Nevertheless, little is known regarding the existence of EMT-related gene signatures and their prognostic values in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). In the current study, we systematically profiled the mRNA expression data of patients with LUAD in The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus databases using a total of 1,184 EMT-related genes. The prognostic values… Show more

“…However, whether hypoxia-related gene signatures can be used to develop a simple predictive formula for late-stage LUAD outcomes or immunotherapy sensitivity remains unknown. Other studies have also attempted to use immune- or EMT-related gene signatures to establish a prognostic model for LUAD ( Tang et al, 2020 ; Wang et al, 2020 ). However, few of these studies used an authentic immune therapy cohort for validation.…”

“…However, for some circulating tumor cells (CTCs) underwent EMT, the expression of these (25-27) epithelial cell adhesion-based molecular markers is difficult to be detected (28). Immunicon, an FDAapproved company, has demonstrated that the number of CTCs is indicative of patient prognosis, and Tang et al (19) first developed a new EMT-related gene signature and constructed a nomogram to predict prognosis of LUAD patients. In addition, the construction of predictive models based on EMT-related genes in LUAD has not been reported.…”

“…Depending on the training set, Cox proportion hazard regression models were used to screen potential prognostic factors and estimate their weights [ 19 , 20 ]. Univariable Cox regression analysis was performed to explore the potential predictors [ 21 ].…”
