Systematic behavior of the neutron-deficient molybdenum nuclei

Abstract: Excited states in """"Mo have been identified using recoil-y and yy coincidences. Energy-level systematics of the molybdenum isotopes from the Ã=Z line to the %=50 shell closure are compared to their strontium and zirconium neighbors. This comparison, an estimate of the 8(E2) strengths, and a Woods-Saxon cranking model have been used to suggest that the molybdenum isotopes undergo a transition from spherical to moderately deformed shapes at " Mo.

“…Details of such calculations have been given in [3,20,21, 22]; pairing correlations have been taken into account. The resulting total energy (Routhian) surfaces in 84-88Mo for ha)=0 and hoJ =0.3 MeV have been discussed by Gross et al [7] and, indeed, confirm a sharp transition from deformed to spherical shape to occur between 86Mo and 88M0. The spherical shape in 88M0 also persists at ho)=0.3 MeV (corresponding to the lowest ground band transitions).…”

“…Based on the lowest transitions in 88M0 identified by Gross et al [7] in a recent recoil separator experiment, the present experiment was designed to establish the level scheme up to high spins and energies. To this end, the 5SNi(36Ar, e2p)SaMo experiment was performed with the t45 MeV pulsed 36Ar beam provided by the VICKSI ac-celerator at the Hahn-Meitner-Institut, Berlin.…”

“…24 h in 88Mo [ 1 ]. A transition to a more collective behaviour was found [4] and Gross et al [5], the structure of their ground bands appears to be rotational-like. This was also predicted by potential energy surface calculations by M611er and Nix [6] and HartreeFock cranking calculations with a Woods-Saxon single particle potential [5].…”
