System dynamics gamification: A proposal for shared principles

Abstract: As gamification has been gaining ground in research practice, system dynamics is no exemption. Despite the long tradition of system dynamics gamification, capitalizing on lessons learned from previous experiences is still challenging for practitioners. Specifically, the extant literature introduces a repertoire of system dynamics-based simulators and games under quite divergent perspectives and nomenclatures, while a comprehensive set of practical 'how-to-gamify' guidelines and a resource repository are lackin… Show more

“…While the primary focus of this research is on the meat system’s mapping, which informed the identification of interventions, we are mindful of the need to analyse these interventions and their impact further. Validating the results through system dynamics simulation modelling (Cunico et al , 2022) can also provide quantitative indications to researchers and practitioners about the benefits of the causality and the meat SC impact. Specifically, time delays and inertia are inherent to system dynamics, thus helping to perform scenario planning and inform policy-making interventions to enable shared value across multiple food system actors (Srai et al , 2022).…”

“…Furthermore, potential interrelationships between environmental issues and human–robot synergy adoption could be further investigated (Ferrari et al, 2022; Mondejar et al, 2021). Notably, the developed conceptual model is a first‐effort approach to elicit the complex interplay of economic and social factors impacting the adoption of human–robot innovation in agriculture; however, this effort should be operationalized through quantitative system dynamics models and gamification tools (Cunico et al, 2021) that could foster farmers' engagement and assist researchers and practitioners in obtaining tangible results. Finally, these tools could further guide policy‐level scenario analysis to support authorities in planning effective regulations and provide both farmers and rural communities with adequate incentives and training for digitalization diffusion in agriculture.…”

“…Gamification exploits the designer's motivational power, creating a habit in consumers' relation to the virtual assets because it creates joy and provides an informative and entertaining feeling (Cunico et al, 2021;Rapp et al, 2019;Hämäläinen et al, 2020).…”

“…In online shopping for virtually wearable products, gamification is valuable for stimulating consumers' experiences and purchase intention and building consumer‐based brand equity in the virtual world (Fernández‐Ruano et al, 2020; Pamucar et al, 2022).
